Hidden cameras lead to nursing home abuse charges

securitycameras 100x100Hidden video surveillance has led to formal charges of and of two nursing home employees in Kentucky, according to Kentucky.com. A grand jury indicted Amanda Sallee of Richmond on a charge of wanton and of an adult, a felony, and Valerie Lamb with reckless and of an adult, a misdemeanor. Both were nursing aides at Madison Manor .

Nursing home aide shocked by wanton neglect charge

Former nurse’s aide Jaclyn Dawn VanWinkle doesn’t understand why her dancing and singing to a nursing home patient has caused such a ruckus, according to Lexington (Ken.) Living. The 25-year-old woman was arrested and charged with wanton of an 84-year-old resident at Madison Manor in Richmond, Ken., where VanWinkle was employed. At least eight other employees face criminal charges, according to the report.

1,400 nursing home residents sue Minnesota chain

About 1,400 nursing home residents are suing a Milwaukee, Minnesota-based chain for consumer fraud, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune. The class-action lawsuit alleges that Extendicare partook in deceptive marketing practices to lure deep-pocketed seniors with high-reimbursement conditions into substandard homes that were not equipped to provide the level of care the patients required.
