The son and daughter of a 46-year-old woman are suing the Knoxville, Tennessee, nursing home where their mother lived, for $7 million in compensation and $28 million in punitive damages for nursing home neglect that resulted in the death of their mother, according to Knox News.
The secret of Robert Young’s death was almost buried forever with the nursing home resident who suffered from cerebral palsy. But his family kept asking questions. A year later, Young’s body was exhumed from his pauper’s grave and an autopsy was performed, revealing that the man’s death was the result of blunt force trauma to the head, according to the Chattanooga (Tennessee) Times Free Press.
The former football player and amateur wrestling legend was likely reliving his old days when he grabbed his nursing home roommate and pushed him to the floor. The force of the fall fractured the victim’s hip and injured his head, ultimately leading to his death. The corner’s report stated that complications from a fractured hip caused the man’s death and as a result the death was ruled a homicide. But it is unlikely the former athlete will ever face charges, according to The Post and Courier of Charleston, S.C.
Rita Kittower had no choice but to put her husband of nearly 50 years into an assisted living facility after he suffered a major stroke that diminished his memory and left him unable to care for himself. Mrs. Kittower paid $75,000 a year to the upscale Silverado Senior Living facility in Calabasas, Calif., to provide her husband Elmore with the best possible care, according to the Los Angeles Times.
When he died, staff told her Mr. Kittower died peacefully in his sleep.
But when Mrs. Kittower received a call the day after burying her husband from an employee at Silverado, she was devastated. The caller said that shortly before Kittower died she saw a fellow employee punch Kittower’s husband’s face and wrap a towel around his head as if to suffocate him.
